| Zu kaum einem anderen Land der Welt gibt es so unterschiedliche Vorstellungen und Ansichten wie zu Brasilien. In den Reisejournalen erscheint es als verheißungsvolles exotisches Urlaubsparadies, in den Medien als gesetzloses Ghetto der Gewalt. Wie kritisch wir dem Land auch gegenüberstehen mögen, Brasilien bleibt - besonders für uns Europäer - ein ewiger Mythos. Woher stammt diese legendäre Anziehungskraft, die gerade Brasilien und nicht irgendein anderes südamerikanisches Land auf uns ausübt? Vielleicht hat Brasilien etwas, was uns fehlt! Viele kommen in dieses Land nicht nur wegen der tropischen Natur und des Klimas, sondern wegen der Menschen und ihrer so anderen Mentalität.
Im Falle Brasiliens kann man durchaus von einem »Mentalitätstourismus« sprechen. Die Leichtigkeit der Brasilianer, zu kommunizieren, zu flirten und Gefühle zu zeigen, ist bewundernswert. Ihre spontane Ausgelassenheit und Lebensfreude steckt an und wirkt auf uns häufig wie ein Jungbrunnen. Es ist, als würde man Energie tanken für ein Überwintern in den heimischen Gefilden. Besonders im stärker afrikanisch geprägten Bahia ist der Mentalitätsunterschied deutlich spürbar, in Salvador, der »heißesten« Stadt Brasiliens, werden so viele Feste gefeiert wie sonst nirgendwo auf der Welt.
