| Abendland und Orient: das Motto schlägt auch den Bogen zu den bedeutendsten Sehenswürdigkeiten: es sind keine türkischen, sondern griechische bzw. römische. Kein anderes Land am Mittelmeer kann einen solchen Reichtum antiker Stätten vorweisen - Troja, Ephesos und Pergamon sind nur die bekanntesten Namen. Betrachtet man die Karte, stellt man erstaunt fest, daß es tatsächlich mehr antike Stätten gibt als moderne Großstädte. Die Türkei ist als eine doppelte Kulturlandschaft daher treffend beschrieben: eine abendländisch-antike unter einer türkisch-modernen, und allzuoft vermischen sie sich sogar, wenn sich ein türkisches Dorf in die Ruinen einer untergegangenen Metropole eingenistet hat. Aber auch der, den das nicht reizt, kommt an der türkischen Küste auf seine Kosten. Die Schönheit der Strände - endlos lang im Süden, in kleinen Buchten versteckt im Westen - ist legendär, zumal die Türkei stolz die beste Wasserqualität im ganzen Mittelmeer vorweisen kann. Wassersport wird fast überall großgeschrieben: Tauchen, Segeln, Paragliding, Surfen sind die Stichworte für den Aktivurlaub. Selbst passionierten Wanderern oder Ski-Fans bietet die Türkei sogar noch abenteuerliches Neuland. |
